Barbados

Commercial solar in Barbados.

The most expensive power of the two markets we work in, and the strongest case for making your own. Systems from 50 to 100 kilowatts, built the same way we build them in Jamaica.

01What power costs here

Barbados pays about a third more for power than Jamaica does.

Business electricity here runs around 31 US cents a kilowatt-hour all in, against about 24 cents in Jamaica. Same equipment, same install, a system pays for itself faster on this side.

Barbados is also further down the road than most of the region - roughly a fifth of the market already has PV, and the country is aiming at 100% renewable by 2030. The question here usually isn't whether solar makes sense. It's whether the system you're being quoted is the right one.

~31US¢ Barbados, per kWh
~24US¢ Jamaica, per kWh

Business tariffs, all in. The gap is why the same system pays back sooner here.

02How a system gets built

One company, factory to switch-on.

Most of what goes wrong on a commercial system goes wrong in the handovers - between the supplier, the shipper, the broker, the electrician and whoever signs it off. There are no handovers here. We buy the equipment, bring it in, install it, certify it and commission it, and the same people answer the phone afterwards.

The same equipment

Named makes and models, bought direct where it makes sense. You get told exactly what is going on the roof before anything is ordered.

The same way in

Shipping, importation, customs, duty and brokerage handled on our side rather than yours, so the equipment arrives as our problem and not your paperwork.

The same sign-off

Certified by a licensed specialist before handover, then commissioned rather than just switched on.

The same warranties

30 years on the panels, 10 on the battery, 5 on the Deye inverter, then paid after-sales service.

04Getting it signed off

A system that can't be certified is a system you can't sign off.

At 50 to 100 kilowatts this is where jobs come apart, and it is the first thing cut when a price looks too good to be true.

  • Certified before handover.By a licensed specialist, not by us signing off our own work. We have been called to systems already sitting on a roof that never were.
  • Commissioned, not just switched on.Tested, set up for monitoring, and followed up afterwards. At this size that is not optional.
  • The paperwork is ours.Shipping, importation, customs, duty and brokerage sit on our side of the line. You are buying a working system, not a container and a problem.
